How a $7B+ manufacturer turned technician insight into aftermarket revenue in four weeks

Technicians servicing high-voltage equipment at a substation

A $7B+ power equipment manufacturer builds and sells transformers, switchgear, generators and turbines. In its generator and turbine division, every installed unit needs years of work after the sale: commissioning, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, upgrades and eventually replacement. Much of that work is sold as service contracts alongside the equipment, which makes the aftermarket one of the division's most valuable revenue streams.

The challenge

Sales and service ran as separate worlds. Sellers negotiated service contracts that lived in SAP. Field technicians delivered the work against contracts in Salesforce Field Service. The two teams rarely spoke, and their systems never did.

The most valuable knowledge sat with the technicians. Many had visited the same customer sites for years and had earned deep trust. They knew which assets were nearing end of life, which needed more frequent servicing, and which weren't under contract at all. A site with 100 assets might have only 40 covered, with the rest unserviced and unrecorded. Some of this reached Salesforce Field Service as notes. None of it reached sales. And many of those technicians were nearing retirement, faster than new hires could be trained.

What we built

Preconfigured's deployment team embedded with the division's sales, service and IT teams to find the problem worth solving first: getting technician insight to sellers while the opportunity was still live.

Within four weeks, the first agentic system was in production. Built on Preconfigured's platform, it works across SAP and Salesforce Field Service. It reads service history and technician notes, matches them against active contracts, and surfaces uncovered and at risk assets. Each opportunity arrives with the specifics a seller needs: the customer, the assets involved, the estimated value and the right contact to call.

Building it was only half the work. The team worked alongside sales leadership to drive adoption across the division, and delivered every opportunity straight into Microsoft Teams, where sellers already work. No new tool to learn. Just a clear next action, at the right moment.

What changed

  • First solution live in 4 weeks
  • $15M in new aftermarket opportunity identified in a single division
  • Opportunities delivered inside Microsoft Teams, ready to act on
  • Technician knowledge captured before it walks out the door

Revenue that had been invisible is now in the pipeline. And knowledge that lived in a few people's heads now reaches the people who can act on it.

What's next

With the first use case proven, the work is expanding in two directions.

Installed base tracking. The client estimates tens of millions of assets in the field are untracked. Agentic workflows now capture them in the system of record, and by the end of month three, one million assets had been recorded.

Point of service. Customers trust their technician more than any salesperson. When a technician recommends more frequent servicing, customers listen. The next phase lets technicians generate an automatically priced quote on site, deliver it on the spot, and bring the right seller in to follow up.
